Ruby E. Starzinger Hecht, 88, of New Wells entered her heavenly home Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014. She passed away at the family home.
Ruby was born March 11, 1926, in New Wells, daughter of Eugene C. and Clara E. Gerler Starzinger. She and Edgar W. Hecht were married Oct. 12, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.
Ruby was a life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells. She formerly sang in the church choir and was a member of the Fellowship Club and Immanuel Ladies Aid. She was self-employed with her husband in the dairy business for many years, after which she worked as a cook at Sewing's Diner. Ruby was an avid St Louis Cardinals fan. Ruby was a caregiver to many, embroidered several quilts and cooked at many area weddings and church suppers. She dedicated her life to church, family and friends.
Loving survivors include a son, Steven Hecht of New Wells; three daughters, Sharon (Marvin) McMillan of Friedheim, Dianne (H.W.) Meyr of Cape Girardeau and Beverly (Gene) Koenig of Perryville, Missouri; sister Dorothy Pilz of Altenburg, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, Amelia (Jared) Cattoor, Jessica (Dan) Ponder, Jon (Jessica) McMillan, Elizabeth (Dr Ben) Mamoun, Kristen (Tom) Canter, Justin (Jessica) Koenig, Lindsey (Ryan) Pohlman, Tara (Pat) Galkowski, Andrew (Lindsey) Hecht and Elise Hecht and friend Chris Moore; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Edgar; and two grandchildren, Amanda Hecht and Aaron McMillan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.
The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Lawrence N. Bradt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund or Lutheran Church-Missouri synod Mission Outreach.
