PAINTON, Mo. -- Ruby E. Burgess, 86, of Montrose, Mich., passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at McLaren Hospital in Flint, Mich., with her loving family by her side. She was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Painton to James and Lydia Story Hogg. She and Gerald Robert Burgess were married July 9, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1982...

PAINTON, Mo. -- Ruby E. Burgess, 86, of Montrose, Mich., passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at McLaren Hospital in Flint, Mich., with her loving family by her side.

She was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Painton to James and Lydia Story Hogg. She and Gerald Robert Burgess were married July 9, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1982.

After his death, she maintained her independence, keeping her mind sharp and taking care of her family. Ruby was a longtime resident of Montrose. She was a member of Montrose United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star in Montrose and Bell City, Mo.

She enjoyed quilting, cross-stitch, cooking and baking, especially chocolate-chip cookies.

Survivors include four daughters, Carol (Lyle) Taylor of Montrose, Dorris Tekiele (Dan Shuker) of Lowell, Mich., Pamella (Ronald) Weisenberger of New Lothrop, Mich., Karen (Mark) Lamparter of Collierville, Tenn.; a son, Gary Burgess of Hampton, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Lyle, Dawn, Todd, Lorie, Tiffany, Cassie, Joe, Ann, Tyler and Blake; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred (Leamond) Tropf of Bell City and Linda (Jerry) Tankersley of Perkins, Mo.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jim Tekiele; a daughter-in-law, Diane Burgess; a grandson, David Burgess; two sisters, Alpha Pierce and Rosemary Hogg; and a brother, Clyde Hogg.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance, Mo.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Montrose United Methodist Church.
