Royce Ann Kessel, 69, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at her home surrounded by her beloved family.
She was born June 5, 1953, in St. Clair County, Illinois, to George Ray and Glenna Ann Tatro Shoemaker.
She was previously married to Charles Adams. She later married Kevin Kessel on Aug. 31, 2002, at Franklin County, Illinois.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and worked for the parish for several years. After completing her master's degree, she worked for the state Department of Mental Health in a supervisor position.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, board games and puzzles. Being an amazing mother kept her busy and she adored her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Kevin Kessel of Cape Girardeau; mother, Glenna Garrison of Sikeston, Missouri; nine children, Tyson (Leigh) Shoemaker of Cape Girardeau, Grant (Bethany) Adams of Cape Girardeau, Amberle McClanahan of Cape Girardeau, Alex Adams of Cape Girardeau, Stephen Adams of Cape Girardeau, Caroline McSparin of Benton, Illinois, Melissa Kessel of West Frankfort, Illinois, Jamie Marie (Mike) Norris of Ina, Illinois, and James Robert Kessel of Ina, Illinois; two brothers, Stephen (Debbie) Shoemaker of Sikeston and Kevin (Theresa) Garrison of Benton, Missouri; and 15 grandchildren. Avi Green, Ethan Adams, Elizabeth McClanahan, Violet Adams, Lucas McClanahan, Nolan Adams, Mackenzie and Madison, Jimmy, Megan, Shane and Amaya and Charles, Gabrielle and Emilea.
She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Justin Green.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday the funeral home in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the state Department of Conservation or Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri.
