Roy Lee Williams, 76, formerly of the Millersville area, passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, where he had resided the past eight years.
He was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Millersville, to Joe and Minnie Stinnett Williams. He and Shirley Howard were married July 18, 1959. They had been married nearly 42 years when she passed away June 2, 2001.
Roy Lee was inducted into the U.S. Army Oct. 11, 1956. He was honorably discharged as a private first class Oct. 10, 1958.
He owned and operated the former Trading Post store in Millersville and worked 22 years at the former Lee Rowan in Jackson, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Omega Williams of Newport, Ark., and a brother, Carlos "Patsy" Williams.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Missouri Veterans Home Activities Fund.
