Roy L. Strack, 84, of Old Hickory, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015. Mr. Strack was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Cape Girardeau to the late, William A. and Marie A. Koeppel Strack. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines from June 1948 to June 1968, and held the rank of commander. ...

Roy L. Strack, 84, of Old Hickory, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015.

Mr. Strack was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Cape Girardeau to the late, William A. and Marie A. Koeppel Strack.

He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines from June 1948 to June 1968, and held the rank of commander. He attended Navy Officer Candidate School at Naval Regional Medical Center, San Diego, and the Naval Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, Illinois. He trained at the Military Health Center and worked in several medical specialties, including emergency medicine, combat field medicine and laboratory. He was a Korean War veteran. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of California, San Diego.

Mr. Strack was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Donelson, Tennessee. He was active in Boy Scouts for several years, was a life member of the VFW and was a volunteer for the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for three years.

Mr. Strack also was preceded in death by his first wife, Nora A. Strack; children, David M. Strack and Lori A. Strack; brothers, Bob and Lloyd; and sister, Patricia.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Strack; sons, Michael J. (Rita) Strack, David (Cindy) Boyd and Douglas (Melissa) Boyd; daughters, Donna Erskin, Darlene Boyd, Debra (Kenneth Ruffin) Shaw, Dena (Charles) Ashley and Darcie (David) Reed; grandchildren, Marrissa, Michelle, David, Stephan, John, Jami, Joshua, Danny, Robbie, Jackie, Lea, Jeremy, Sara, Justin, Elijah, Jonah, Isabella, Jacob, Jordan, Shae and Drew; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Sellars Funeral home in Mount Juliet, Tennessee.

The funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
