MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Roy Hershel Abernathy, 80, of Marble Hill passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 15, 1935, in Stoddard County, Missouri, the son of Clarence Harley and Mary M. Lawson Abernathy. He and Oneta Lucille Buchholtz were united in marriage in August 1966, and she passed away July 8, 2013.
Roy was a farmer. He worked as a reserve deputy for Januar Peters and as a security officer for Bill Gilmore. He retired from Lee Rowan and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by a daughter, Lori Abernathy of Marble Hill; three sisters-in-law, Glenna Hohler and Mabel Buchholtz of Jackson and Wanda Darr of St. Louis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Oneta; parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill.
