LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Rose Josephine Holzum of Leopold died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Elder Care of Marble Hill in Marble Hill, Mo. Born Feb. 3, 1911, she was the daughter of John G. and Josephine Fels VanDeVen. She married Frederick Martin Holzum Oct. 12, 1927. He preceded her in death April 24, 1961...

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Rose Josephine Holzum of Leopold died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Elder Care of Marble Hill in Marble Hill, Mo.

Born Feb. 3, 1911, she was the daughter of John G. and Josephine Fels VanDeVen. She married Frederick Martin Holzum Oct. 12, 1927. He preceded her in death April 24, 1961.

She and her husband were successful farmers many years in Bollinger County. Following her husband's death, Rose worked as a sales clerk for Wallis Family Store and Ricketts Store in Marble Hill. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and visiting friends and family. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Leopold and St. Ann's Sodality.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Florick of St. Louis; two brothers, Elmer and Arthur VanDeVen; two sisters, Verna Katin and Adel Bulmax; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Charles and Fred (Jr.) Holzum; three sisters; and three brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. John Catholic Church in Leopold. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 3704, Memphis, Tenn., 38173.
