Rose Laverne Matlock Durham, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Missouri. She also was known as our precious Mama Rose.
She was born Feb. 26, 1934, in McClure, Illinois, to James W. and Ella Mae Rudluff Matlock. Rose married Earl Durham on Feb. 11, 1950, in Piggott, Arkansas.
She worked as a housekeeper at Southeast Hospital. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Angela (David) Johnson of Whitewater and Nancy (Sam) Rial of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a son, Jeffrey (Danetta) Durham of McClure,; grandchildren, Sarah (Matt) Hill, Mason Rial, Zachary Durham, Gabriella Durham and Hannah Durham; three sisters, Sue Clingingsmith of Sedgewickville, Missouri, Louise Ring of Le Claire, Iowa, and Jo Ann Harris of Mount Vernon, Illinois; a brother, Gary (Parry) Matlock of Pocahontas; and many nieces and nephews.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl Durham; two children, Gary and Ricky Durham; and eight brothers and sisters.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Auburn Creek Assisted Living for making the last four years of her life enjoyable and a blessing to her family, as well as Chaffee Nursing Center and Crown Hospice.
A private family funeral service will be Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Dongola, Illinois.
Memorial contributions may be given to Safe Harbor, Crown Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
