ROD DIXON

CAIRO, Ill. -- Funeral for Gaines "Rod" Dixon of Cairo will be held Friday at McPeters Funeral Home in Corinth, Miss. Burial will be in Henry Cemetery at Corinth.

A service was held Wednesday at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. The Rev. Richard Pigg officiated.

Dixon, 80, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at his home.

He was born March 21, 1920, in Corinth, son of Gaines and Maude Chancey Dixon.

Dixon was a member of Cairo First Christian Church, Cairo Masonic Lodge 237 AF&AM, KIM Shrine Club, Cairo Elks Lodge 651, charter member of Ironworkers Local 782, and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his wife, Inez; a son, Gaines Dixon Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Dixie Comer of Tishomingo, Miss.; a sister, Lilly Wamsley of Iuka, Miss.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister.
