GLEN ALLEN, Mo. — Robert L. York, 76, of Glen Allen passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born April 4, 1947, in St. Louis County, Missouri, to Joseph and Lucille Lovell York. He and Mary Anderson were married Dec. 28, 1974, at Glen Allen United Methodist Church.

Robert served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps from April 1966 through April 1970. He served two tours in Vietnam from September 1967 until April 1969. He then joined the Army National Guard and Army Reserve from 1986 until 2007.

He received a Bachelor of Science from Sterling College.

He retired from Missouri Department of Transportation after 20 years of service.

Robert loved fishing, reading, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and college basketball.

His greatest joy ever was his grandchildren. He would take them fishing, take them for walks and to the creek. He would play in the sandbox with them and go to all their events, awards and games. He truly lived to see them and make them happy.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary York of the home; daughter, Katie (Daniel) Heuring of Glen Allen; sister, Myrna (Earl) Cheek of Morley, Missouri; sister-in-law, Angie York of Benton, Missouri; four granddaughters, Taylor Heuring, Sophie Heuring, Hannah Heuring and Bradi Heuring; grandson, Lucas Heuring; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille York, and father, Joseph York, and four brothers, Edward, Allen, John and Norman York.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 19, and again from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday, May 20, at Ford and Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Missouri.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Keyarae Yi officiating. Burial will be at Glen Allen Cemetery.
