Robert Taylor

Robert Lee Taylor, 82, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 23, 1919, at McClure, Ill., son of Clifton L. and Cora Welcher Taylor. He and Pauline E. Gibson were married Sept. 3, 1942, at Cape Girardeau.

Taylor was a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Cape Girardeau from 1948 to 1980. He was a member of the Maple United Methodist Church, the National Letter Carrier Association, the Methodist Men's Club, treasurer of the church, Sunday school superintendent, church custodian, Boy Scout leader and Little League baseball coach. He was also a member of VFW Post 3838 and veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served as a sergeant during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Thomas A. Taylor of Jefferson City, Mo.; two daughters, Jeanne A. Kelpe of Cape Girardeau and Karen S. Grayson of Jackson, Mo.; two brothers, Jack W. Taylor and William "Slug" Taylor, both of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, four brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. today with full military rites conducted by VFW 3838 and Missouri Honor Guard.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
