CHARLESTON -- Robert Smith, 85, of Charleston died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at Charleston Manor.
He was born Aug. 19, 1914, in Sledge, Miss., son of Jim and Lucy Carter Smith. He and Margaret Owens were married Oct. 26, 1945.
Smith lived in Missouri more than 70 years.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Bates of Chicago, Robert Smith Jr. of Sikeston, Michael Smith of Kansas City; three daughters, Betty Lyes and Kathryn Adams of Kansas City, Leora Webster of Detroit, Mich.; 19 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Perry Chapel AME Church. Elder Steve Betts will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church after 1 p.m. Saturday.
Sparks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
