SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Robert Lee Knight, 66, of Scott City died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 23, 1934, in St. Louis, son of Lee and Edna Howard Knight. He and Elo-dean "Ellie" Knight were married Dec. 23, 1956, in Jackson, Mo.

Robert graduated from Illmo-Fornfelt High School, and received a bachelor of science degree in education and a master's degree in history from Southeast Missouri State University.

He taught in Montgomery City, Mo., from 1956-57. He taught at Central High School in Cape Girardeau 30 years, retiring in 1988 as chairman of the social studies department. For several years he was the voice of the Tigers.

Robert was awarded a lifetime teaching and administration certificate. He was a DARE instructor at Scott City Elementary School from January 1989 to January 1997.

He was a volunteer deputy in Scott County eight years, past deputy sheriff of Scott County, and served as a court bailiff eight years.

Robert was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and served as congregation president, on the board of directors, was an elder and chief elder, member of the choir, and taught Sunday School.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-59, and served 30 years in the Naval Reserve. He was awarded the National Guardsman and Air Force Recruiting Service Awards.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Valeria Klaproth of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two sisters, Edana Huse of Manchester, Mo., Lenore Reynolds of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Lee Klaproth and Philip Klaproth of Poplar Bluff.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Knight.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Short officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park, with graveside rites by the Naval Reserve Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Martin, Jim Gwin, Paul Cummins, Mark Barr, Keith Wood, Kerry Klaproth and Alvie Baker.

Memorials to Robert Knight can be made to Saxony Lutheran High School or St. Andrew Stephen Ministry or St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
