Robert King

Robert "Bob" P. King, 86, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 at the Monticello House in Jackson.

Friends may call between 4-8 p.m. today at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral service will be at 1:30 Monday at the funeral home, followed by interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Fruitland. The Rev. Raymond V. Epps will officiate.

King was born Jan. 27, 1916, in the Leemon community, son of the late Harrison and Tavie Wills King. He and Geneva E. Morton were married Oct. 22, 1936. She passed away on March 29, 2001.

Loving survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Earlene King, Gene and Joyce King, Kenny and Jackie King and Ricky and Lynda King, all of Jackson; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Homer Stamp Jr. of Scott City, and Sharon and Bob Joyce, Mary Beth and Paul Vrbosky, Cynthia and Ken Hotop, all of Jackson; four sisters, Violet Sides of Blue Mound, Ill., Geraldine Laramore of Jackson, Peggy Sue Craft of Jackson and Doris Landis of Anna, Ill.; 14 grandchildren, Joey, Gregg and Kristi King, Jayne Hartman, Gina Cato, Kendra King, Erika and Deidre King, Lisa Toll, Don Jacobs III, Andrea and Amy Vrbosky, Jennifer and Sarah Hotop; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one granddaughter, Holly Christine Jacobs.

King drove a school bus in north Cape Girardeau County for the Jackson R-2 School District from 1946 to 1966. In 1952, he and his wife Geneva opened Bob's Tire Repair in Jackson. The business continues today under the operation and management of his son Kenny. The Kings were known locally for their gifted musical abilities and talent. They were pioneers of a generation of dance music that spanned over 60 years. Along the way, they accumulated a wealth of friends in music covering a wide area. They always treasured and cherished these times. They were an inspiration to their family and friends, adult and young.

King was a member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson.
