Robert Vinyard Hoffman Sr., 90, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 24, 2008, at his home.
He was born Aug. 31, 1917, in Charleston, Mo., son of John Robert and Imogene Evelyn Vinyard Hoffman. He and Eloise Lonon were married May 24, 1940. She died Sept. 19, 1967. He later married Bernadette Ogden May 25, 1968. She died March 2, 2005.
During World War II he was an aircraft inspector with Glen L. Martin Co. in Omaha, Neb. He was a plant manager at the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Cape Girardeau. He was also a plant manager for Havco Industries.
Hoffman was a member of Cape Bible Chapel, where he served on the building committee and the flower committee. He was an avid rose gardener.
Survivors include two sons, Robert V. (Jan) Hoffman Jr. of Lees Summit, Mo., John L. (Karen) Hoffman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Carl Hoffman of St. Louis; two sisters, Mary Pollard and Judy Bland of California; four grandchildren, Bob Hoffman III of Holden, Mo., Susan Sprenz of Lees Summit, Aaron Hoffman of Memphis, Tenn., Jason Hoffman of Chicago; three great-grandchildren, Bailey and Jake Hoffman of Holden, Brooke Berendzen of Lees Summit; and loving caregiver, Gracie Mayberry of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Chapel.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cape Bible Chapel, with Dan Greene officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
