Funeral for Robert C. Hines of Cape Girardeau will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home. The Rev. Sam Ramdial will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston, Mo.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Hines, 92, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at his home.
He was born May 10, 1909, at Old Shawneetown, Ill., son of James Wesley and Mary Melissa Burchwell Hines. He and Verda Smith were married June 2, 1933, at Lilbourn, Mo. She died Nov. 1, 2001.
Hines moved to Cape Girardeau in 1943. He was a member of First General Baptist Church.
He received a bachelor of science degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1937, and received a master's degree in education from George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn., in 1949.
Hines taught a year at New Madrid County, 11 years at Risco, and 30 years in Cape Girardeau public schools. He was assistant principal at Central High School from 1965 until retiring in 1973.
He served in the U.S. Navy from Jan. 5, 1945, to Feb. 4, 1946.
Survivors include a son, Robert G. "Bob" Hines of Hillsboro, Mo.; a daughter, Mary Margaret Taylor of Climax Springs, Mo.; a sister, Louise Buchholz of Toms River, N.J.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, a brother, and four sisters.
