Robert Bertrand

Robert C. Bertrand, 87, of Harrisburg, Pa., formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, July 2, 2011.

He was born Sept. 6, 1925, at Chaffee, Mo., to Frank C. and Zetta Essner Bertrand. He and Betty Hoover were married May 19, 1946, in Harrisburg.

Bertrand was employed 38 years as director of billing and receipts with Capital Blue Cross in Harrisburg.

He served three years in the U.S. Army as an MP in London and Paris.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty; two daughters, Nancy (David) Hart of Middletown, Pa., Sherry (John) Linderman of Palmyra, Pa.; three grandchildren, Adam Hart, Jonathan (Tonya) Hart, Amy (Kevin) Yurasits; four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Conner and Maggie Hart, Breana Yurasits; four brothers, Harry, Frank, John and Ronnie Bertrand, all of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Shirley Schmidt and Lorraine Eaton of Cape Girardeau; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill Bertrand; two sisters, Georgia Haman and Charlotte Dunn.

The funeral was held July 6 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Harrisburg. Burial was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pa., with full military honors.

Geigle Funeral Home in Harrisburg was in charge of arrangements.
