Rita Ann Mayfield, 53, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She was born Feb. 8, 1953, in Chaffee, Mo., daughter of Clarence A. and Alma B. Schwartz LeGrand. She and John Mayfield were married March 14, 1981, in Cape Girardeau...

Rita Ann Mayfield, 53, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

She was born Feb. 8, 1953, in Chaffee, Mo., daughter of Clarence A. and Alma B. Schwartz LeGrand. She and John Mayfield were married March 14, 1981, in Cape Girardeau.

Mayfield was employed by the State Health Department in Cape Girardeau for 14 years. She was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Eric Scott Mayfield, Doug A. LeGrand, both of Chaffee, John David Mayfield of Gainesville, Fla.; four sisters, Mary Ann Jones of Marble Hill, Germaine LeGrand of Benton, Lavern Kiefer of Advance, Helen Harris of Annapolis, Mo.; a brother, Joe H. LeGrand of St. Louis; two granddaughters, Lindsey LeGrand, Mollie LeGrand.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; maternal grandfather, Albert Schwartz Sr. of Scott City, paternal grandparents, Joe and Christine LeGrand of Benton; a nephew, Dean Edward LeGrand.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today; vigil service at 7 p.m., followed by rosary services.

Service will be at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating.

Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 106 Farrar Drive, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
