Richard N. Renfrow, 72, of Cape Girardeau died suddenly Tuesday, March 24, 1998 at his home. He was born Jan. 24, 1926, son of Brigadier General Louis H. Renfrow and Ruth Kelso Renfrow. He married Edith Josephine Boutin on March 8, 1952 in Cape Girardeau, MO.Mr. Renfrow attended Campus High School, Southeast Missouri State University and graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Military Science. He also received a Double Computer Science degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1977. He served in the Missouri National Guard and 4 years in the U.S. Army during World War II, retiring with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was also honored for 50 continuous years of the Armed Services, and the Cape Girardeau Police and Police Reserve.
Mr. Renfrow worked for the Southeast Missourian for many years. He was at one time Deputy Assessor of Cape Girardeau County. For a large portion of his life he worked as a computer programmer for the firms of Ralph Edwards Sportswear and Tri-con Industries. He also worked for ABC/ABS for 3 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cape Girardeau.
He was a lifetime member of Phi Sigma Kappa and Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternities, a member of the State Historical Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America Organization.
Mr. Renfrow's grandfather Judge I. R. Kelso and the Renfrow family have contributed many acres of land to Southeast Missouri University, the City of Cape Girardeau and The Audubon Society for Bird Sanctuaries, Nature Reserves and City Parks.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard B. Renfrow and Carl L. Renfrow of Cape Girardeau; and one grandchild Kathryn Boutin Renfrow. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert K. Renfrow.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Brenden Dempsey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with graveside services.
