CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Richard Stephen Miller, 77, of Charleston died Saturday, March 14, 2020, at his home. He was born Nov. 28, 1942, in Cape Girardeau to Roy Sterett Miller and Gail B. Miller. A 1960 graduate of Charleston High School, he attended Vanderbilt University and Southeast Missouri State University. CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Richard Stephen Miller, 77, of Charleston died Saturday, March 14, 2020, at his home.

He was born Nov. 28, 1942, in Cape Girardeau to Roy Sterett Miller and Gail B. Miller.

A 1960 graduate of Charleston High School, he attended Vanderbilt University and Southeast Missouri State University. He enlisted in the Missouri National Guard, where he obtained the rank of captain and served as company commander in Charleston, Sikeston and Portageville.

On Dec. 18, 1968, he married Marilyn Maevers, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Dale Hughes of Cincinnati; and a son and daughter-in-law, Reid and Jacquie Miller of Belmont, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his father, who was killed in action during World War II; mother; and stepfather, Robert R. Davis.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at McMikle Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. J. Robert Webster, pastor of Charleston United Methodist Church, will officiate.
