Richard Lee Lipps, 65, of Jackson died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Southeast Hospital.
He was born Aug. 14, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, to Jerry Lee and Elizabeth Berry Lipps. He and Karen Poston were married Aug. 23, 1984, in Paducah, Ky.
Richard was a 1966 graduate of Jackson High School.
He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
Richard was a former bricklayer. He had a passion for buying and selling cars and rebuilding wrecked ones. He owned and operated American Motors Inc. in Cape Girardeau more than 20 years.
Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Turner of Cape Girardeau; stepmother, Ruth Lipps of Cape Girardeau; wife, Karen Lipps of Jackson; a son, Keith Lipps (Heather) of Jackson; a daughter, Tracie Beckman (Michael) of O'Fallon, Mo.; two brothers, Doug and Denny Lipps of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Janis Brumbaugh and Judi Lipps of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Austin Lipps, Ryan Lipps, Spencer Mitten, Parker Mitten, Fletcher Mitten, and Carter Beckman.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Lee Lipps.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Sam Ramdial officiating.
