Richard Miles Hammond, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 31, 1934, in Salina, Kansas, to Ernest Dow and Anna Marie Vidrickson Hammond. He and Helen Hutson were married Nov. 7, 1963, in Crestwood, Missouri.
He was a graduate of University of Kansas as a chemistry major. He was a lab supervisor for United Nuclear Corp. in New Haven, Connecticut, and chemist at Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals Company in St. Louis. He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1970, where he worked for Hutson Enterprises until retirement.
He was past president and honorary member of Cape Girardeau Rotary Club.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Hammond of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Craig Hammond of Indianapolis and Jeff Hammond of Des Moines, Iowa.
A private service will be held.
Burial will be at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church and Southeast Hospice.
