Richard H. Giles, 79, of 2046 Perryville, died Saturday, March 21, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was the owner and president of Missouri Electric Works.

He was born Jan. 10, 1913 in Latrobe, Penn., son of Arthur E. and Lillie Spargo Giles.

He married Margaret Lee Bain on Aug. 9, 1936. She survives of the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Other survivors are three sons, Richard B. Giles, Thomas A. Giles and David B. Giles, all of Cape Girardeau; one daughter, Virginia Lee Lakemeyer of Chesterfield; and nine grandchildren.

Three brothers preceded him in death.

Giles was active in many civic organizations, including Boy Scouting, the Exchange Club, Downtown Rotary Club, the Royal Arch Masons, Cape Council No. 20 of Royal & Select Masters, Knights Templar, Scottish Rite, and was a Temple board member.

He was on the Cape Girardeau Planning and Zoning Commission for many years, a member of the board for the Osteopathic Hospital, president of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers from 1970-1971, president of the Southeast Missouri Chapter of Professional Engineers from 1969-1970, internal president of the Electrical Apparatus Service Association from 1976-1977, and was past master of St. Mark's Masonic Lodge No. 93. He served as chairman of the United Way in 1977.

He was a member of First Christian Church.

Giles moved to Cape Girardeau in 1947, when he started Missouri Electric Works. He served as president of the company until the time of his death. He graduated from the University of Illinois with an electrical engineering degree.

Friends may call today from 4-7 p.m. at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. A private, graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Wally Brown officiating.
