ANNA, Ill. -- Richard Lee "Dick" Baker, 82, of Anna died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at his home.

He was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Dongola, Ill., son of Frank and Geneva Greer Baker. He and Margie Fisher Smith were married Feb. 20, 1975, in Jonesboro, Ill.

Baker had worked at REA five years, and was employed 25 years with CIPS, retiring in 1985. He was a former commander of Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy, and was awarded a Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Donna Bauer of Sarasota, Fla.; two sons, Bob Baker of DeSoto, Ill., Randy Baker of Murphysboro, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Phyllis Hawk and Martha Sensmeier of Anna; a stepson, John Smith of Ruskin, Fla.; a sister, Bonnie Mangum of Anna; a brother, Paul Baker of Lynchburg, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Randy Carstens officiating. Burial will be in Anna City Cemetery, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 3455.
