The Rev. Walter P. Trost, 82, of Bensenville, Ill., died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

A native of Milwaukee, Wis., he received a master's degree from Eden Theological Seminary in Webster Groves, Mo. While attending the seminary, he served three months as pastor of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau.

He was also a chemistry professor and went to Africa in 1949 to help start a secondary school. In addition to serving at other churches, he was pastor of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Chicago more than 21 years, retiring in 1998.

Trost was a member of Peace United Church of Christ at Bensenville the past four years.

Survivors include his wife, the former Ruth Kies; a son, Paul Trost of Chicago; two daughters, Jean McCann of Tampa, Fla., Beth Schowalter of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral was Jan. 26 at Bethlehem Church in Chicago, and Jan. 27 at Peace Church in Bensenville. Burial was in Frieden Cemetery at Bensenville.

Lake View Funeral Home in Chicago was in charge of arrangements.
