PERRYVILLE -- The Rev. Leroy "Roy" Higgs, 66, of Perryville died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart, Ind.
He was born Aug. 23, 1933, in Olmsted, Ill., son of Luther and Ina Hooker Higgs. He and Joyce Thiele Stephens were married Sept. 25, 1985, at Dexter.
Higgs was a graduate of Rhema Bible College in Broken Arrow, Okla., and Marcelo Bible College in San Diego, Calif. He was an ordained apostolic Pentecostal minister many years.
He drove a truck for Charles Trucking and was an instructor at MTA Truck Driving School in London, Ohio. He owned and operated Dexter Taxi Co. 10 years. He had been a volunteer deputy with Stoddard County Sheriff's Department, and had been a jailer.
Higgs was a member of Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Chester, Ill.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jeff Stephens of Cape Girardeau, Kevin Stephens of Creal Springs, Ill.; two daughters, Sherry Britton of Las Vegas, Nev., Tamara Cave of the state of California; his mother of Dexter; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The Revs. Philip Keaton and Randy Eskew will officiate. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery at Bell City.
