FESTUS -- The Rev. John C. Shrum, 76, of Festus died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, at St. Anthony Hospital in St. Louis, following a brief illness.
He was born June 5, 1920, in Sikeston, son of Jesse E. and Frances C. Black Shrum. He and Evelyn Ruth Scott were married June 21, 1954, at Festus.
Shrum attended Paul Jones University. He was an ordained minister of the Congregational Methodist Church, and had owned and operated a pest control and locksmith business in Festus prior to retiring. He was a member of Plainview Congregational Methodist Church near Marble Hill.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sherry Putman of Festus; four brothers, Bill, Jim and Sam Shrum of Cape Girardeau, Jake Shrum of Mountain Grove; five sisters, Arcelle Korzen of Coraopolis, Pa., Katherine Hammer of Festus, Lola Urhahn of Oran, Jean Gilliland of Puxico, Joy Baker of Jackson; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call at Cady's Funeral Home in Festus from 2-9 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olive Methodist Church at Festus. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
