The Rev. John Andrew Rice Sr., 73, of Jackson died Sunday, July 30, 2023, at his home.

He was born Dec. 30, 1949, in Sikeston, Missouri, to William David Rice Sr. and Loyetta Newman Rice.

He and Patricia Sue Dudley Rice were married Oct. 3, 1970, in Sedgewickville, Missouri.

John was a minister since 1970. He was a member of Cape Girardeau Jaycees, Boy Scouts of America, National Historical Society and American Diabetes Association.

He was a member of Mercy Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, John Andrew Rice Jr. of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Jennifer Annette Oliver of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and seven grandchildren, Sgt. Danny E. Goode of Camp Lejune, North Carolina, Mark E. Goode Jr. of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Nicolas A. Goode of Hendersonville, Emma D.J. Goode of Hendersonville, Sarah E. Goode of Hendersonville, Montana Jo Rice of Cape Girardeau and Olivia Grace Oliver of Hendersonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William David Rice, Jr.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will follow at noon Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Aaron Campbell officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the American Red Cross
