The Rev. Herbert Bruhn, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at the Lutheran Home. Friends may call Thursday, Nov. 30, from 4-8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Funeral service will be Friday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church on Mt. Auburn Road. A graveside committal service will be held at 3 p.m. at Herculaneum Cemetery in Herculaneum, Mo. The Rev. Herbert Bruhn, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Nov. 17, 1911, at Pevely, Mo., son of Otto and Ethel Shieble Bruhn. He and Juanita Baxter were married Aug. 1, 1935.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tom Gerdis of Louisville, Ky.; two grandsons, Joel Gerdis and wife, Toby, of Louisville, Micah Gerdis of Bowling Green, Ky.; a granddaughter, Trina Sutherland and husband, Ken, of Louisville.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Rev. Bruhn was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. He pastored churches at Festus, Chaffee, St. Louis, East Prairie, Jackson and Whitewater In Missouri. He was a missionary in Alaska at the end of World War II, where he established a church in Sitka, and pastored in Fairbanks.

He served as the first national field representative for the Home Missions Department of the Assemblies of God, and later became administrator of Hillcrest Children's Home in Hot Springs, Ark. He served as administrator of several nursing homes and was on the board of Mid-America Teen Challenge. Toward the end of his life he was an honorary pastor of First Assembly of God in Cape Girardeau.
