SIKESTON -- The Rev. Henry J. Smith Sr., 87, of Sikeston, died Dec. 12, 1992 at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born may 24, 1905 in Formosa, Ark., son of David C. and Charity E. Halbrook Smith.
He was a retired minister and farmer.
He was a member of North Acres General Baptist Church in Sikeston.
Smith was ordained in 1923, in the Post Oak Groves Association in Clinton, Ark. He was formerly the pastor of Larimer Ridge General Baptist Church near Sikeston; Trotter General Baptist Church in Hunterville, Mo.; Hawley General Baptist; Big Ridge General Baptist Church, Canalou , Mo.; and the Castor River General Baptist Church at Clines Island, Mo.
On July 12, 1924 he married Floy Loetta Sandage in Conway, Ark. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Wornie W. Smith of Bettendorf, Iowa and Henry J. "Buck" Smith Jr. of Sikeston; a daughter, Mary L. Smith of Kila, Mont.; brother, Loren E. Smith of Kennett; sister, Alma Holloway of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
Service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Henry Jordan officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories at Sikeston.
