VILLA RIDGE, Ill. -- The Rev. Gerald Bethards, 73, of Villa Ridge, died Thursday, April 7, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

He was born Dec. 22, 1920, in Shobonier, son of Roy and Flossie Campbell Bethards. He and Elsie Hawkins were married Nov. 9, 1944.

Bethards was pastor of Villa Ridge Union Church more than 37 years. He had also served at Anderson Congregational and Cobden Congregational Churches.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Susan Middleton and Jean Britt of Cobden; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Villa Ridge Union Church after 4 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at the church, with the Revs. Clifford Heil, Claude Smith and Gilbert Gee officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery.

Crain Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
