MARQUAND, Mo. -- The Rev. George Washington Mills, 89, of Marquand passed away Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at the Stockoff Nursing Home.

He was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Patton, Missouri, the son of James and Hilda Mills. He and Lola Louise Trentham were united in marriage March 13, 1943.

The Rev. Mills was ordained by the Congregational Methodist Church on Aug. 6, 1948. He pastored several churches over the years, holding many revivals in Missouri and Tennessee. He was a founding member that started the Calvary Hilltop Youth Camp, worked for Shell Feed and Buchheit, drove a truck, built roads with Penzel Construction and used to say he had done about everything while pastoring and doing the revivals. He was a very hard-working man and will be missed by all.

He served his country proudly in World War II from July 6, 1944, to April 22, 1946.

Survivors include his wife, Lola; daughter Shirley (David) Holler of Marquand; brother Bill (Shirley) Mills of Marquand; sisters Esther Upchurch, Bonnie Wagner and Judy (Gerald) Webb, all of Marquand; Faye (Tom) Slinkard of Fredericktown, Missouri; Carol (Duel) Standfill of Farmington, Missouri; grandchildren Tony (Molly) Russell and Mitchell (Jacki) Russell of Marquand and Jennifer (Raul) Woerner of Medford, Oregon; great-grandchildren Jessica (Shawn) Vandeusen and Lacey Hinkle of Jackson, Mandy (Chris) Grazian and Mickey Cole of Chicago and Jake Sarver of Chillicothe, Illinois; and great-great-grandsons Connor, Jackson and Keegan.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter Brenda K. Mills; brother Delbert Mills; sister Mabel Henson; and granddaughter Cheryl Russell.

Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society and the Wounded Warriors Project.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton.

The funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Frog Mills and Tommy Fults officiating. Burial will be in the Union Light Church Cemetery near Marquand.
