SEDGEWICKVILLE -- Funeral service for the Rev. Fred A. Heckathorn of Sedgewickville will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Craig Nessan will officiate, with burial in Lixville Cemetery.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today.
Heckathorn, 87 years old, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 1991, at his home.
He was born June 6, 1903, in Steele City, Neb., son of Otto and Nancy Edna Trook Heckathorn. He and the former Anna Young were married Nov. 18, 1942.
Heckathorn was an elementary teacher in Nebraska for a time. He graduated from Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. He was ordained May 20, 1942, by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Illinois.
He held pastorates in Rock Grove, Olney and Forreston, Ill. From 1958-73 he was pastor of Sargent's Chapel, Mt. Zion and Sedgewickville Lutheran Church, all near Sedgewickville.
Since retiring he had worked with lead stained glass, and sang in a barbershop quartet.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Fred Heckathorn of Perryville; three daughters, Mary Savoy of Cape Girardeau, Ruth Heckathorn of Springfield, Ill., Esther Bohnert of Jackson; five sisters, Dorothy Hofling, Doris Harty, Wilma Herrick and Norma Blom of Sioux City, Iowa, Alma Van Houten of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
