COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Rev. Cy H. Smith Jr., 88, of Columbia, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

He was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Belle, Missouri, to Cyles Harold and Della Frances Williams Smith Sr. He and Georgiann Nolting were married April 2, 1949, at Bland, Missouri.

After graduating from Southwest Baptist University, Cy pastored Mint Hill Baptist Church, Cedar Bluff Baptist Church in Fair Grove, First Baptist Church in Ashland, First Baptist Church Syracuse and First Baptist Church Warsaw. He and Georgiann then moved their family to Cape Girardeau, where he pastored Red Star Baptist Church for more than 16 years. He had a great ministry in every church he pastored.

After retirement, he worked for Ford and Sons Funeral Home many years, where he was used by the Lord to be pastor for so many families that did not have a pastor. He was privileged to preach the funeral of their loved ones. He most recently was a member of Parkade Baptist Church in Columbia.

For all of Cy's great ministry in our state, Hannibal-LaGrange University bestowed on him an honorary doctorate degree. He was an accomplished guitarist and some of his happiest times were playing in a band with one of his best friends, Jim Wiley.

Cy was a great sports enthusiast, as he loved to fish and hunt as well as being a SEMO and MIZZOU fan in every sport. He was a big supporter of Capahas baseball.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He made many friends in his life and he will "Sho Nuff" be missed.

Survivors include his wife, Georgiann Smith of Columbia; a daughter, Cathy (Len) Schroeder of Jefferson City, Missouri; three sons, Dale (Kathy) Smith of Columbia, Steve (Pam) Smith of Columbia and Scott (Allison) Smith of Apollo Beach, Florida; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren, with two on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Parkade Baptist Church in Columbia and from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
