SCOTT CITY -- The Rev. Charley Alvin Owens, 81, of Scott City, died Friday, April 16, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 13, 1911, son of Charles and Sarah Hartsey Owens.
He was married to Mattie Cook, July 29, 1940. She died April 16, 1978.
Owens then married Jacqueline Mitchell, Oct. 14, 1978.
He was a minister around the area for more than 60 years. He was minister, member and vice-president of the New Life Gospel Center in Scott City.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, the Rev. Jack Owens of Chaffee, Ronnie Owens of Chaffee, Floyd Owens of the state of New Mexico, Donald Owens Brady of Cape Girardeau, Billy Goodman of Chaffee; two step-sons, Terrence Mitchell of St. Louis, John Mitchell of Mesa, Ariz.; five daughters, Rosemary Ford of Pocahontas, Mo., Betty Backus of Cape Girardeau, Virginia Williams of Chaffee, Connie Taylor of Chaffee, Myrtle Ruth Owens of the state of Oregon; four step-daughters, Marilyn Torrez of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Gail Johnson of Chesterfield, Mo., Kathy Palmer of Brazil, Ind., Shelia Kerperien of Scott City; a brother, William "Bill" Owens of Scott City; 30 grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, three brothers, seven half-sisters and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, with the Rev. C.B. Stidham, the Rev. Dale Hendricks and the Rev. James Lane officiating.
Burial will follow at Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.
