The Rev. Alonzo L. Rhodes, 76, 823 Locust, died Monday, March 29, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Feb. 13, 1917, at Bessville, son of Henry A. and Annie Stearns Rhodes. He and Bessie Wallace were married June 10, 1940. She died in April 1972. He and Alma Norene Hager were married Aug. 18, 1972.
Rhodes was a retired Baptist minister, serving churches in Southeast Missouri and southern Illinois. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, and was currently a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Oscar Rhodes of Cape Girardeau, Alonzo Rhodes Jr. of Jackson, Jerry Rhodes of Scott City, Michael Rhodes of St. Louis; three daughters, Mary Gohn and Nancy Manhart of Cape Girardeau, Patricia Goodman of San Diego, Calif.; a stepson, Charles "Benny" McDowell of Jackson; three stepdaughters, Jeannette Stone and Clara Farrar of Cape Girardeau, Elda Keller of Kankakee, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren, and four great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Southside Church. The Revs. Kendal Hicks and Joe McCullough will officiate, with burial in Fairmount Cemetery.
Friends may call at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel from 5-9 p.m. today.
