JOPPA, Ill. -- Raymond Sheffer, 66, of Joppa died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis. He was born Sept. 1, 1932, in West Chester, Pa., son of Arthur and Dorothy Summers Sheffer. Sheffer was retired from Illinois Power and Gas Co. in Maryville. He was a veteran of the Korean War...

JOPPA, Ill. -- Raymond Sheffer, 66, of Joppa died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

He was born Sept. 1, 1932, in West Chester, Pa., son of Arthur and Dorothy Summers Sheffer.

Sheffer was retired from Illinois Power and Gas Co. in Maryville. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of Laborers Local 179 in Edwardsville, American Legion Post 306 in Metropolis, member of LeClaire Christian Church in Edwardsville and attended Karnak United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, June Canada Sheffer; two sons, Wendell and Raymond Sheffer of Metropolis; two sisters, Violet Davidson of Metropolis, Phylis Lingle of Edwardsville; a stepbrother, Jim Severs of Pulaski; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a brother.

Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak from 6-9 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joey Dunning officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery at Belknap, with graveside rites by American Legion Post 306.
