JACKSON -- Funeral service for Raymond W. Popp of Jackson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. The Rev. David Johnson will officiate, with burial in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.

Popp, 85, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born April 1, 1911, at Frohna, son of Andrew and Laura Schroeter Popp. He and Lela Kranawetter were married Nov. 13, 1938.

Popp farmed in the Frohna community with his father, moving to Jackson in 1938, and worked at the former Kerstner's Drug Store.

He and Herbert Rauh bought the Palace Cafe in 1940. In 1947 Popp sold his interest in the cafe, bought the former Dockins Grocery and changed the name to Popp's Grocery Store. He retired in 1983.

Popp was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, former elder and active in the Men's Club. He was a former member of Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business Association.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Rebecca Montgomery of Chesterfield, and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a son, sister and foster brother.
