CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Ray Smith, 77, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 26, 2007. He was born at Torch, Mo., Sept. 21, 1929, son of Lee Roy and Myrtie Mae Stewart Smith. CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Ray Smith, 77, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 26, 2007.

He was born at Torch, Mo., Sept. 21, 1929, son of Lee Roy and Myrtie Mae Stewart Smith. Ray married Arvella Brown Feb. 29, 1948.

He was a retired FruCon construction worker, a member of Craftsman Union Local 1 of Cape Girardeau, and a member of the Christian Mission in Benton, Mo.

Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Working in his yard was very special to him. Ray will be missed by all of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Jimmy (Charlotte) Smith of Chaffee; a daughter, Cathy Trost of Jackson; two brothers, Elmer Smith and Floyd (Ann) Smith, both of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Wanda (Clarence) Morris, Virginia (Rodney) Poston, and Judy (Edwin) Dambach, all of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Ryan) Pennington of Chaffee, Ami (Robert) Crouse of Jackson, Matt (Jessica) Trost of Chaffee; six great-grandchildren, Christopher Trost and Nicolas Crouse of Jackson, Landon Trost, Bronson Trost, Trenton Pennington and Kylea Pennington, all of Chaffee.

He was preceded in death by five sisters and a brother.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The Rev. William Marshall will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Randy Morse. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery.
