ANNA, Ill. -- Ray Leon Plott, 79, of Anna died Saturday, March 23, 1996, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.
He was born March 31, 1916, in Union County, Ill., son of Cyrus and Rosa Azalee McCommons Plott. He and Betty Groves were married.
Plott was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anna, the Anna Lodge 520 A.F. and A.M., the VFW Carroll P. Foster Post 3455, and the Anna Star Chapter 522 of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the American Legion.
Plott served as superintendent of gas and water for the city of Anna from 1956 to 1979. He was elected mayor in 1983 and held office for four years.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Rodney, Greg, Roger and Edward Plott; a daughter, Emmalu Baker, all of Anna; two sisters, Lela Plott Williams of Anna and Faye Plott Cloyd of Peoria, Ill.; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Anna. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Revs. John Gearing and Larry Schacklee will officiate. Burial will be in the Anna Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post.
