CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Ray Dowd, 85, of Chaffee passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, at Monticello House in Jackson.
He was born March 18, 1932, in Hayti, Missouri, to the late Sidney Lee Sr. and Sarah Beatrice Rafferty Dowd. Ray married Linda Rose Jones on Oct. 29, 1960, and she preceded him in death July 25, 2015.
Ray worked as a conductor for Frisco Railroad Co. and later Burlington Northern Railroad in Chaffee. He retired in 1993. He was member of the United Transportation Union and a member of Chaffee Elks No. 1810.
He also served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1954.
Survivors include his son, Ed (Dawn) Dowd of Charleston, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Lexi and Austin Dowd, both of Charleston; one sister-in-law, Ella Dowd of Chaffee; and a niece, Gayle (Jack) Dragoni of Chaffee.
Ray was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. An Elks service will be at 7 p.m.
