COBDEN, Ill. -- Ralph David McGowen, 73, of Cobden, died Monday, April 3, 1995, at Union County Hospital in Anna.
He was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Bernie, son of Thomas Wiley and Bertha Jackson McGowen. He and Mary Ruth Miles were married Oct. 7, 1969, in Mounds.
McGowen was a member of First Baptist Church in Cobden, and Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna. He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife; four children; two stepsons, Michael Stanley of New Carlisle, Ind., Joe Stanley of Paducah, Ky.; three stepdaughters, Carolyn Landis of Makanda, Vicki Moore of Jonesboro, Sandra Hawkins of Cobden; three sisters, Verla Lawrence of Iuka, Thelma Brown and Shirley Carlisle of Dexter, Mo.; three brothers, Charles McGowen of Dexter, Thomas McGowen of Marissa, Carroll McGowen of Adamsville, Tenn., and 17 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and three brothers.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden after 6 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral service will be at 1 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Cobden Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 3455.
