Pinkney J. Newell, 96, 1617 North Henderson, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1992, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born Nov. 17, 1896, near Lutesville, son of Robert and Mary Masters Newell. He and Sarah Sadie Crites were married Oct. 6, 1919, at Jackson. She died July 5, 1976.
Newell was a carpenter more than 40 years. He worked for Taylor Construction Co. 18 years, and helped build the Mississippi River bridge here. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, P.J. Newell Jr. of Jefferson City; two daughters, Mary Owensby of Evansville, Ind., Mrs. Charles Braswell of Flat River; 11 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel. The Rev. John Owen will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. today.
