MOUNDS, Ill. -- Phyllis Buckles, 78, of Mounds passed away at 12:54 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born April 2, 1942, in Ballard County, Kentucky, the daughter of Paul and Louise Winters Dowdy. She and Larry Paul Buckles Sr. were married on Dec. 21, 1962.
Phyllis was a proud member and first lady of the Villa Ridge (Illinois) Union Church.
Survivors are her loving husband of 58 years, Larry Buckles; daughter, Kim Buckles; son, Larry Paul Buckles Jr.; special daughter, Autum (Keith) Simmons; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Paula (Steve) Justen; sister-in-law, Beverly Dowdy; and nieces, nephews, other loved ones and friends to whom she was known as "Sissy."
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Keith and John Ed Dowdy, and two sisters, Linda Carr and Anita (Jim) Stout.
A celebration of Phyllis' life will be held at a later date.
