PETER WILLIAM SNELL JR.

EGYPT MILLS -- Peter William Snell Jr., 94, Egypt Mills Route 1, died Thursday at his home.

He was born Aug. 9, 1897, at Ware, Ill., son of Peter and Dona Huddleston Snell. He and the former Gladys Benefield were married Oct. 15, 1924, in Cairo. She died July 15, 1948. He later married Amanda Mueller Dec. 31, 1949. She died May 7, 1983.

Snell had worked for Illinois Central Railroad, and was a member of Scriptural Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeireld Snell of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Rozena Grube of Danville, Calif.; two brothers, Woodrow and Robert Snell of Gale, Ill.; a sister, Susie Prewitt of Gale; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, daughter, four brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Scriptural Church. The Rev. Fred Faughn will officiate, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes, Ill.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.
