Percy Howard Mangels, 79, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Percy was born Sept. 12, 1942, to Herbert and Lilly (Koch) Mangels in New Wells. He married Patricia Meyer on Oct. 22, 1966. She preceded him in death Feb. 16, 1991. He later married Bonnie Braddum on Nov. 29, 1997, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. She survives in Jackson.

Percy was inducted into the U.S. Navy Jan. 4, 1962, and was honorably discharged Jan. 3, 1968.

Percy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. He was a member of American Legion Post 133 for 26 years, the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge 639 for 12 years and the Perryville (Missouri)Eagles Lodge 4034.

Percy had a love for music and was talented at singing and playing the guitar and harmonica in numerous bands over the years. He loved the sport of baseball, whether it was coaching or watching his children and grandchildren play, and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Percy also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. If you knew Percy, you knew he never met a stranger, only a friend who he had not yet met. He was loved and cherished and will be missed by many.

In addition to his loving wife of almost 24 years, Percy is survived by three children, Christopher (Jennifer) Mangels of Mantachie, Mississippi; Jason (Amy) Mangels of Apex, North Carolina; and Denise Mangels of Jackson; 10 grandchildren, Christina, Daniel, Patrick, Joseph, Isabella, Michael, Elizabeth, Courtney, Mickayla and Chloe; five siblings, Curt (Judy) Mangels, Ronald "Butch" (Prissy) Mangels, Verlin (Martha) Mangels, Wesley (Linda) Mangels and Alice "Abby" (Mike) O'Leary; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a godfather to many.

Percy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Mangels; two stepsons, Marvin "Scott" Stacy and Donald Stacy; and a sister, Sharon Cairns.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, with an Elks Lodge service at 6:30 p.m.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim, with Pastor Roger Steinbrueck officiating, followed by full military honors.
