ANNA, Ill. -- Pearl C. Clayton, 86, of Anna died Friday, Dec. 15, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Dec. 25, 1908, in Union County, Ill., the daughter of Thomas J. and Viola Vaughn Smith. She married Everett Clayton on Aug. 14, 1927. He died July 1, 1947...

ANNA, Ill. -- Pearl C. Clayton, 86, of Anna died Friday, Dec. 15, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 25, 1908, in Union County, Ill., the daughter of Thomas J. and Viola Vaughn Smith. She married Everett Clayton on Aug. 14, 1927. He died July 1, 1947.

Clayton was a member of the Saratoga United Methodist Church and attended the Anna Church of the Nazarene. She was retired from the Choate Mental Health and Development Center and was active in the Hillside Terrace Senior Citizens organization. She wrote poetry and had a poem published several years ago.

Survivors are six daughters, Viola Hankia, Louise Pender and Loretta Harris, all of Anna, Geraldine Elkins of Cobden, Vurtis Duckworth of Perks, and Carolyn Bird of Jonesboro; two sons, Dennis Clayton of Chicago Heights and Jerrie Clayton of Anna; three sisters, Lanie Clayton, Eulalah Miller and Sibyl Jones, all of Anna; a brother, Amos Smith of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three grandchildren.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Revs. Garnett Mitchell, Ralph Lee and Arlin Rhoads officiating. Burial will be in the Kelley Cemetery, east of Cobden.
