BENTON, Mo. -- Paul Zeigler, 89, of Benton passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016, at his home.
He was born Jan. 12, 1927, at Kelso, Missouri, the son of George and Helen Hamm Zeigler. He married Aileene Jeannette Cook on Sept. 16, 1950, at Benton. She preceded him in death May 26, 2009.
Paul was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Okinawa for four years. He worked 38 years for the Scott County Highway Department. He was a member of American Legion Post 369 in Benton, VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, Benton Senior Citizens and a former member of the Benton Chamber of Commerce. He served two terms on the Benton City Council. He coached Little League baseball for many years and later coached women's fast-pitch softball, taking a team to the World Championship.
He is survived by a son, Alan (Donna) Zeigler of Benton; a daughter, Libby (Darrell) Klipfel of New Hamburg, Missouri; four grandchildren, Ben (Lauren) Klipfel, Josh Klipfel, Angela (Justin Overton) Baker and Michael (Ashley) Zeigler; three great-grandchildren, Conner Baker, Avery Zeigler and Ella Klipfel.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Denis Church in Benton. Parish prayers will be at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church by the Rev. Normand Varone. Interment will be with full military Honors in St. Denis Cemetery.
