CYPRESS, Ill. -- Paul Vernon Williams, 78, of Cypress died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Ill.
He was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Cypress, son of Homer and Gertie Davis Williams. He married Mary Elizabeth Stevens.
Williams was a custodian 25 years at Cypress schools. He was a member of Cypress Baptist Church and a former deacon.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes and Central Europe.
Williams is survived by his wife; a son, Rodney Williams of Grantsburg, Ill.; two sisters, Kathy Wilson of Venice, Fla., Wanda Dantonie of Canton, Ohio; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and a daughter.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak, Ill., with the Rev. Scott Harner officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery at Cypress, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 5222 in Vienna, Ill.
