MOREHOUSE -- Paul Jackson Sherrard, 89, of Morehouse died Sunday, June 18, 1995, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born Dec. 31, 1905, in Morehouse to Charles Jackson and Cora Ellen Boswell Sherrard.

On July 11, 1932, he married Alma Dean Morris, who died in 1993.

He was a pharmacist during his 24 years of active duty in the Navy where he served in the occupation forces after World War I. In World War II he was stationed at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attack took place in 1941. He later served nine years in the Naval Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant commander.

He served as public health administrator of the New Madrid County Health Department and had formerly served as a deputy sheriff in New Madrid County. He also served on the Selective Service Board in New Madrid County.

He was a 50-year 32nd-degree Mason and member of Morehouse Masonic Lodge 603, AF&AM; a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry; a member of the Morehouse order of the Eastern Star Chapter; Morehouse IOOF Lodge 358; and the Rebekah Lodge. He was a member of the Morehouse Kiwanis Club.

He had been a member of the Morehouse VFW post, and was a member of the American Legion Henry Meldrum Post 114 in Sikeston and of the Rauch-Spence Memorial United Methodist Church in Morehouse.

Survivors are two sons, Paul J. "Jack" Sherrard of Morehouse and Charles R. "Dick" Sherrad of Sikeston; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston with the Rev. Jerry Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
